Nowadays, it seems to me that necktie trends have gone a long way. To date, there are two different styles of neckties which are worth considering. The skinny and the ascot.
Skinny ties
Gone are the days of the conventional necktie where the lower portion is wider than the upper one. Neckties these days are quite different. Take the case of skinny ties which came into the style scene last year. These ties are 3 inches wide (at the most) and its two sides are parallel from top to bottom. (See photo below)
Seems like the trend for “skinny” is going all the way from jeans to necktie, what could be next?
Ascot Ties
The next trend is the Ascot tie. This one is different from the skinny tie in the sense that it is not skinny at all – in fact it is wide, very wide. Take a look at the photo above and you will see that the whole tie is covering the opening of the vest. I haven’t seen anyone yet wearing the tie here in the Philippines but I think it will come soon. Personally, I don’t think I can pull-off the style – it is quite awkward for now. But who knows what will happen a few months later?
As for me, I’ll stick with the skinny tie for now since it fits me best. I remember Greenday wearing a skinny red tie in my post here. Anyway, what about you guys? What do you think of the two neckties and which do you prefer?

Well, it goes with the time.
But for me, ties with a wide base are SO the fashion of yesteryears.
I always see actors wearing skinny ties, so I guess, skinny ties are the hottest property FOR NOW — and another style will make it few months or even years from now.
i don’t think ascot ties are meant for everyday use. here in the uk, they are mostly used when attending dinner parties and formal occassions.
well i love to wear my skinny ties…
we use skinny ties as well. in my opinion wearing the ascot tie with out the vest won’t look ok because of its wide design.
