just so to help the public understand: blue font may be misleading, red font is supposedly guiding you..

in blue font: preferred network... this is tricky. what is the basis of their preference? based on audience share? there are instances that the only available free tv channel which is "hindi malabo" is GMA. there are other factors to consider when claiming for preference. it should be directly asked to the respondents what is indeed their preferred network, had all things been equal and available.

55% - seems like the majority but the key word there is "total urban". if we would get data from NSO, the urban-rural split is 50-50. so 55% here is not actually the majority but only 55% of the 50% of the population.

again, highly coveted mega manila - they are saying this because in terms of land area to total number of heads, it is very obvious that Mega Manila (metro manila + key neighboring provinces in region 3 and 4) is densely populated.

so based on fox69's post, if we were to look within Mega Manila, yes GMA is ruling the ratings. however, some people would want to know which network is leading if we were to read total Philippines (this means urban + rural and all the areas of the country), data would then tell otherwise. If we were to look into the OFW and migrant market, data again will say otherwise.

if we were to look into daily ratings - based on overnight readings, some programs like Revillame's is gaining ground.

Lastly, my personal advice:
Before anything can be published/aired/put out into the public that HAS a claim, it has to go through the ASC (formerly the adboard). they will basically ask for a certification or basis for your claim. as a general consumer, always read the labels and the fine print. you will notice in ads that there are small texts at the bottom detailing where or how they arrived at the claim. so that you know...

HK finds Phl officials at fault in hostage crisis

HONG KONG (AP) — A Hong Kong inquest has concluded that Philippine officials contributed to or caused the deaths of eight local tourists during the August 11 hostage incident in Manila.

The five-member jury of the Coroner's Court of Hong Kong faulted Philippine authorities for not meeting the hostage-taker's demands quickly enough. The jury said the bungled rescue operation also delayed medical treatment for two victims who might have been saved.

The panel also found that Philippine officials aggravated negotiations by failing to block media coverage of the gunman's brother's arrest, which outraged suspect Rolando Mendoza.

Wednesday's findings however do not imply criminal or civil responsibility.

THE NETWORK war has reached the point of hypocrisy. Imagine, I am only an ordinary and faceless viewer in the TV crowd, and here comes an anchor addressing me "Kapamilya," "Kapatid," or "Kapuso"? Kapuso does not even have an English synonym.

Me a what? Since when did I become a family member of giant ABS-CBN? How did GMA7 get to know of my personal character, attitude and feeling? "Kapatid"? I have only two surviving brothers, so why is that broadcaster calling me his brother? Unless TV5 is a network owned by a religious denomination.

Whatever happened to the old reliable "Mga Kaibigan, Kababayan, or Kapwa Kong Pilipino" that 99 percent of TV hosts have stopped using? Talk of kaplastikan (insincerity). That's why I feel good when Noli de Castro addresses me simply as "kabayan" because I am really his kabayan.
