sabi ng ibang friend ko, quality wise pareho lng naman daw sila. Kung sa  effeciency di ako sure. Pero mas mura daw ang lens ng canon. yung nikon naman ang camera mismo ang mura, mahal nga lang daw ang lens.

either of the 2, parehas magandang brand and model. imo it should depend on what your friends and families have para makahiram ng lens. regarding newer models, it's better to get the old ones na bumaba na ang presyo. like old mid level models that's almost the same price as the entry ones.

though strictly sticking on the choices... i'll get the canon 500D. because my only gripe w/ nikon D5000 which is the same with their other entry level cameras - D40, D60... is the body doesn't have it's own AF (Auto Focus) motor. kaya limited ka lang sa mga lens with AF motor which is scarce and more expensive than the regular SLR lens line-up.

my tip, kung canon 500D... body lang kunin mo and buy the best bang for the buck lens - 50mm F1/8 prime... that'll be an excellent training lens, mura na and very sharp considering its dirt cheap price.

lastly, tanongin mo ng maigi ang sarili mo kung maaddict ka sa photography. kasi 100% of the time, those guys who were bitten by the shutterbug who opted for the entry level cameras, always i mean they always regret the purchase and ended up getting the mid level ones. tulad ng nabanggit nila D90 is a good start or canon 50D.. either way you can go wrong

re: lens marindi rin presyo ng canon... check they 'L' line up.

alam ko pede naman maginterchange ng lens regardless of brand kasi standard size naman iyon
