Why Is My Hair Thinning?
(Lengthy Article)

Your hair could be thinning for any number of reasons or combination of reasons, and without a thorough medical examination by a physician, it is impossible to tell which is which with any degree of certainty.  Our goal in this article is to address the most common questions that we receive from our readers and to answer those questions in a very non-scientific manner, and perhaps even answer some questions that might be on your mind too.  To follow, is a brief discussion on the known causes of hair loss and how it can be treated medically.

In general terms, some of the most common reasons for hair loss or thinning are:

1. Genetics.
2. Illness.
3. Poor Diet.
4. Stress.
5. Medications.
6. Post-partum Alopecia.

GENETICS:
Hair loss can actually be caused by many factors including genetics, diseases, poor nutrition, stress and even medications, but by far the most common cause of hair loss in men and women is hereditary male and female pattern baldness or 'androgenic alopecia.'  This accounts for 99% of all prematurely thinning or balding scalps.

It is your inherited DNA, passed on from EITHER parent, that will eventually determine your hair loss. For the purpose of this article, you need only understand that with current technology, your genetic code is beyond your control, although that may change within the next ten to fifteen years.  However, you should also be aware that today, like no other time in history, medical science is able to provide safe and effective treatment for hair loss.

ILLNESS & POOR DIET:
When you are ill, your body taps reserves of stored nutrients and when these are depleted, your body takes these nutrients from wherever it can, thus robbing other parts of your body of nutrients that they require.  For example, when you see pictures of starving children (and sadly, we see these pictures all too often, or perhaps not often enough), they are usually bald.  Their little bodies are using any available nutrients for more essential functions.

If you think that you are rapidly losing hair, check your diet and seek medical attention from a hair loss physician.  Remember that Biotin and Zinc are especially good for hair growth.  In most cases a simple inexpensive daily multi vitamin such as 'Centrum' or 'One-A-Day' will be ample to cover any unusual nutrient loss.  In some cases a larger dosage may be required, and may be acquired from most health-food stores.  Please check with your physician for your exact needs.  There is a lot of unnecessary junk for sale out there and many stores will readily sell you expensive supplements that you do not need and that have little if any benefit, except to the pockets of the store that sold them to you.

MEDICATION / MEDICAL TREATMENTS:
Many medications or medical treatments add a hormone to your system to combat an otherwise life threatening condition.  These same compounds can also affect you hair condition.  After some cancer therapies, hair that was straight and blonde comes back in curly and red, and so on.  There is really nothing that can be done about this without otherwise endangering your life, so please don't try.  Stick with the program.  Losing a little hair is a small price to pay for the privilege to be alive.  Usually, chemotherapy patients experience at least some re-growth after the medication is discontinued.

STRESS:
Environmental and emotional stress can lead to a sudden onset of hair thinning or patchy hair loss that does not correspond to the typical pattern of male or female pattern hair loss.  This can be because of some medical condition which has not yet been identified and treated, or stress.  Reduce stress if you can and if the loss persists, seek medical attention.  We know that this is easier said than done, but that is the only remedy.

Well, in a nutshell, that's it.  Yes, there are any number of other products, remedies, therapies and whatnot's that we have not mentioned, and for good reason.  They don't work, no matter what you may have heard.  These remedies range from old wives tales, to such miracle cures as CM (chicken manure) and old forgotten ancient cures like rat entrails and urine.  We refer to these things as 'Hair Voodoo'.  Do yourself and your bank account a favor and go with hair science, not hair voodoo.

what do you guys think about those pill, shampoo's na ipinakikita sa mga shop tv.. may gumamit na ba dito nun? effective ba?

Remember, certain diseases, like thyroid disease, and anything associated with high a high fever can cause hair loss, so check with your doctor.

How to Thicken And Regrow Your Hair Naturally

Hair is important because it forms like a beautiful covering on your head that is why it's considered as a person's crowning glory. Beautiful and healthy hair is often regarded as a great asset but it also needs constant care and attention especially when you live in a big city where it's constantly exposed to pollution and harsh chemicals.

There are a lot of factors that causes hair loss, thinning and baldness. If you're worried that your hair is no longer that vibrant and healthy, there are some ways to thicken and regrow it naturally.

•1
Use a mild shampoo with natural ingredients. Take note that if you wash your hair frequently with an alkaline shampoo, it can change the acid balance that could damage your healthy hair in the long run. Alkaline based shampoos could cause your hair to become stiff, thin, brittle and dry due to long term application. It is advisable to use a mild pH balance shampoo every other day for your hair.

To prevent hair loss, avoid any shampoo with Sodium Laureth Sulfate as one of the ingredients. Sodium Laureth Sulfate is a chemical that may be found in shampoo to lift trapped dirt and oil.

•2
Eat protein rich foods to make your hair grow. You can find protein in lean meats, chicken, turkey, eggs, fish, cheese, beans, nuts, yogurt and milk. A good amount of protein in your diet combined with the needed amount of exercise and sleep will result in a fuller and thicker hair follicles appearing in your scalp.

When the hair receives the right nutrients, it can create new and healthy hair cells. You can also include foods rich in B vitamins like peas, cauliflower, nutritional yeast and carrots. Eat plenty of foods high in biotin like oats, brewer' s yeast, brown rice, bulgur, lentils, green peas, soybeans, sunflower seeds, and walnuts. You also need essential fatty acids like flaxseed, borage, primrose, and salmon because the oil taken from them can thicken hair texture and stimulate hair growth.

•3
Use the right essential oil for your hair. One of the most effective natural ingredients that is very good for thin and dry hair is olive oil. Through proper application, it will also regrow your hair. Pure olive oil is the best to use for hair treatments. Avoid heating up the olive oil so that you won't damage the good fat in it. You only need to gently pour the pure olive oil over the hair while you're in the shower.

Next, spread the oil from your scalp to ends of your hair. Be sure to use a wide tooth comb with rounded tips so that you will not scratch your scalp. Pin your hair up to top of the head and wrap in a towel or shower cap. Allow the oil to soak and penetrate for 20-30 minutes before rinsing your hair thoroughly.

Apply a mild shampoo and work well into hair. Virgin coconut oil is also good to thicken and regrow hair naturally. You can just rub it into your scalp and work your way down to the tips of your hair. Leave it for at least 20-30 minutes before washing it out with your mild shampoo.

If your hair has been damaged by harmful chemicals or environment pollutants, put 3-4 drops of sandalwood, patchouli, lavender or rosemary to your conditioner after applying shampoo and leave it on your hair for 4-6 minutes. You can use any or a combination of the essential oils mentioned to thicken and regrow your hair naturally. You can apply these essential oils 2-3 times a week.

•4
Avoid exposing your hair to environmental factors that can destroy it like the sun, strong wind, pollutants and toxins. If you want to thicken and regrow your hair then prevent too much sun exposure that can make it so dry, brittle and discolored. If you want to go out then protect your hair by using a hat or umbrella.

•5
Massage your scalp with 15-25 drops of an essential oil like olive, rosemary, coconut, chamomile, jojoba, peach nut, lavender or sunflower to thicken and regrow your hair naturally. Leave any of the essential oil that you had chosen in the scalp for 25-30 minutes wrapped in a towel. Wash your hair and scalp with your mild shampoo.

Massage your scalp everyday so that it will help activate blood flow to the hair follicles that can help your hair grow. Massaging your scalp 15-20 minutes with your fingertips aids new capillaries to form making the hair follicles revitalize. It will begin to produce healthy and thicker hair as a result of the massage therapy.

•6
Drink any herbal tea once or twice a day. An herbal tea is excellent for maintaining blood circulation and healthy hair growth. Green tea is one of the most known to provide a good and effective result. It's advisable to use loose herbs instead of those prepackaged tea bags because they easily allow hot water to completely extract the medicinal properties.

You will only place the loose herbs in a cotton tea net or tea ball and add boiling water. Allow it to soak for 15-20 minutes before drinking. You can also add lemon to it. Lemon is good because it has vitamin C that will also aid in improving scalp circulation.
