Actually hindi humiram but more like came from paganism (if ever there's a term). If my memory serves me right Constantine was a pagan before he became a Catholic. Constantine was the person responsible kung bakit Catholic ang parang "dominant" (my opinion) religion all over the world. When Constantine was converted to ROMAN CATHOLIC, he issued the EDICT OF MILAN to proclaim that religious affiliations (Christianity) will not be persecuted anymore just like in the past but proclaimed that ROMAN CATHOLIC be the official religion of the whole roman empire.

FYI, Christmas is not really a Christian celebration but more like a pagan celebration. Jesus Christ was "never" born ON DECEMBER 25. Who knows when but "IT COULD or COULD NOT BE" December 25. Historically December is the month dedicated to their SUN GOD, which is their PRIME God SOL. That's why when Constantine was converted, they used some of the pagan celebrations or symbols to be used in Catholic religion. That's why CHRISTMAS for CHristians=Feast day of the SUN God for pagans.

well blame it on the ecumenical councils. They are the one who handpicked kung ano ang dapat gawin ng mga Catholics at kung ano ang ilalagay sa Bible. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are not the only gospels. There's the gospel of Phillip, Judas, Mary Magdalene and the gnostic gospels.... but these gospels represent Jesus as only Human or as only God not both Human and Divine. That's why our Church Fathers (Ecumenical councils) picked the gospels that we know today.

If we look at it more closely, did Jesus really envisioned that humans should build a religion (Roman Catholic) with deacons, priest, bishops and a Pope? A religion with hierarchy and the Pope at the top of it?

Remember that kung sino ang makapangyarihan yun ang masusunod..... Do you think that if it weren't for Constantine or the Benedictine monks who protected our religion Catholic pa rin kaya ang dominant religion today?

sorry monch, i have to disagree with the last line.

*I got this from a movie I saw and I believe he's right.

Let's say someone murdered a very close person to you, like your mom, dad or your child. Then comes the trial, the murderer said to the judge, "Hey, judge I did commit the murder but there are also many good deeds that I've done...". Then the judge would decide not guilty. Would you think he's a good judge? Of course not!

Our God is a good judge, he will not just judge us by every good deeds we have but all the wrongs that we did. Every sin that we did. And the wages(payment for) of sin is death. That is why He sent Jesus, whom died on the cross on behalf of us in order that we may be forgiven.

Does that mean all of us has already been forgiven? No, it only applies if we acknowledge that Jesus did died on the cross, that He is our ONLY saviour and He is God. Which through Him (Jesus) we will be able to have a relationship with God.

As far as I know, this is the foundation of the Christian faith.

Good deeds is just the fruit of your faith.

haba no? sorry..  ;D

if we try to read the whole of Scriptures, we will see that Jesus is not building a religion. Jesus in fact, came to seek and save that which was lost.

geo

correct! We were asked once in our theology class.... "did Jesus really envisioned to have a religion with hierarchy? with pope at the top, bishops and priests? When He said to Peter to build a Church from that rock, did He really meant to build a religion or a group of people?

ctan

yup, kasi religion is created only by men.

yap yun naman ang tumbok ko e... the good deeds which is a product of our faith not just our own doing... pag kristyano ko kasi... magiging manifestation ng yung faith ang good works....imposible namang kristiyano ka pero sama ugali mo di ba hehe

yup, kasi religion is created only by men.

Back in college, we were ask if what is the difference of religion from faith? It is a really difficult question because most of us would think that these words are like synonymous with each other. Our theology professor said: Religion builds walls while faith builds bridges.

Our religion forbid us to do this and that but for other people who has a different religion, it is okay BUT we are one in praising our God. Yahweh for others. Buddah and Allah on the other side. But what is the difference? Each one of us believes in one supreme being. Different religion but the same faith. :)
