Why is the Philippines left behind by our Asian neighbors? The Philippines was the richest Asian nation 50 years ago right?
Because of massive corruption by the govt. officials. Our country's decline started with Marcos regime.
Mismanagement of our resources. Oy ^ the country's highs and lows happened during the Marcos regime.
yep. it became the system kaya laganap ang red tape, abuse of power/authority, graft, etc.... but yes, it was mismanaged.
Take note: MASSIVE resources.

yes high kasi sa time na iyon 2nd tayo to Japan in Asia pero nagdecline na afterwards dahil nga sa massive corruption. Hinde na nakabawi after that kasi ang mga sumunod na Presidente after Cory practice massive corruption too ;D Kaya ngayon nabaon na talaga tayo sa utang. Next to Marcos, GMA was the next of the most corrupt
maraming factor why we were left nehind ... i dont want to sound so religious but i think part of it is we just become hypocrite with our relationship to God... ne fear anymore... we say things and do otherwise...corruption are just a product of it
Agree with people being hypocrite.
Besides restoring our democracy, what were the achievements of the Aquino administration?
^ partial CARP?
Is it the fault of the goverment or the fault of the people?
^^ its the fault of the politicians who have self interest!!!
we can't blame the people especially yung mga 'mahihirap', kasi nalilinlang sila ng mga 'buwakanang' pulitiko....

well that is human nature. but what can guard against it is that it always takes two to tango. even the other person succumbs to the temptation.....
I wish makahabol ulit ang pinas kasi ngayon second to the last na ata tayo. Last ang bangladesh.
yap wish and pray for the best
I don't know if this reply would be relevant... but I think it's how we think...
most of us can't get over of the great things that we did in the past. (people power, bayanihan in the ondoy incident, etc.)
most of us just reminisce about it and not think on how to apply these in today's problems. (the answer is pretty obvious of course)
I think we should focus more on the future than on the past...
but as I said... my idea may be irrelevant to the thread... ;D
ok nga sagot mo. kaya nagiging left behind ang pinas dahil sa way of thinking at mentality ng mga pinoys ;D
i dont know how relevant, but some people would argue it was because of our long-time being "slaves" to other countries. it affected our culture and mentality so much.
BUT we can change and always HOPE for the better.
Haay.
WTF is wrong with the country? From the president, government officials, to the PNP, media, and the common people - what is wrong with you?
Sorry Jude, with all due respect to you, I know you are from the media. ABS-CBN also admit they need to evaluate how they show live coverages, and GMA also say they'll evaluate on their reporting of the incident.

very understsndable - kahit sino talagang ilalabas ang galit

another thing that I noticed is that we are very religious. So religious that some or most are just letting God do all the work. We always say "nasa Diyos ang awa at nasa tao ang gawa", but ultimately, may ginagawa ba talaga tayo aside from crying over spilled milk?
just my opinion...
another reason kung bakit left behind tayo from other countries is wala tayong UNITY. Kanya kanya tayo eh ;D
Even businessmen only have part. Our life greatly depends on our decisions at ang desisyon na yun ay may epekto sa ikauunlad ng buhay natin or ikababagsak natin. :)
Naalala ko tuloy yung Tag line sa church na kinabibilangan ko before: "If I changed everything changes."
If I want our country to progress, I must progress first. :)
^
Agree! :)
--
For me naman I think kokonti yung talagang nagmamahal sa bansa natin.
instead of being happy to other Pinoys who manage to be on top, they try to put them down by making up stories and bad lies >:(

tumpak!!
We have lots of bad elements in our culture. I also think that we do not deserve this "freedom" for now as we are still a developing country, lots of people still need to be lectured. Also, we are not that "rich" 50 years ago, we were once one of the richest in the poor Asia.
People just keep on blaming the government, but look at our surroundings. Lots of clutter.
That's a different thing.
They are college graduates and known for their being best in class. Angelo Reyes is one of them. But what happens, nainfluence sa corruption. He did not invent it or started it but he just go and ride with the flow ;D

shittiest as in has the most number of shit? hahaha!
i think the poverty mentality has a big factor why were left behind

Through the Eyes of a Filipino
By Hazelyne M. Elgar
Listen to me!
You might think we are a poor nation,
but when I look around me I do not see just poverty.
Instead, I see farmers, back bent from sun up till sun down
nurturing the land.
I hear fisherfolks heaving, as they gamble with their lives
amidst angry winds and rough water just to nourish their families.
I feel the weary legs of children from far-flung barrios,
as they cross rivers and mountains and walk for miles,
just to get to school because they still dream.
I see determination in the eyes of street children playing tag
with cars flying past on a ruthless highway
in order to augment their parent's meager earnings.
In the face of destitution the Filipinos are steadfast. That is courage.
You rebuke us for the graft and corruption plaguing our government,
but when my eyes skim the front pages of broadsheets I do not see hopelessness.
Instead, I am inspired by stories about pushcart classes
and strangers swimming in deep murky flood waters to save nameless individuals.
I immerse myself in news about how my countrymen unceasingly believe in the spirit of unity.
I revel because millions of Filipinos still voted for change.
At times when we are at the receiving end of the world's censure,
I choose to see the noble intentions of fallible men to help.
In tumultuous situations, when the urge to hold others culpable is difficult to resist
In the face of adversity, the Filipinos are united. That is courage.
You chastise millions of my countrymen for leaving our motherland to seek greener pastures.
Answer me this: have you ever listened to how they whimper at night because they long for home?
When Filipinas, forced to work away from their dear ones,
shed silent tears as they lull to sleep infants not their own
I begin to understand what unconditional love is.
You lure away our engineers, artists and teachers with a promise of a good life.
The loving hands of our nurses tend the health of your people.
Do no dare ask why we need to fill the void in your labor force!
The Overseas Filipino Worker is intelligent, ingenious, hard working and resilient.
I see that, and in my eyes they are heroes.
In the face of obligation, the Filipinos are self-sacrificing. That is courage.
You are at liberty to express your opinion about my country,
but you can never take away my pride, for I belong to a people united in faith and love.
I am Filipino, and no matter where I go I will always be one.
I do not doubt that the time for change will one day come for the Philippines.
Our flag, cast in the sun's glorious light, will be waving high.
My countrymen's sacrifices will not be in vain. We will face the future with courage.
As one, we will reach out to the world and the world will embrace us.
Believe me, because I will take the lead.
@Jude_Law:Nice one...(applauding). :D
^think positive!!!!
i think we just have to work and pray hard
May pag-asa pa!

yung lack of unity and dishonesty ay mas malalim pa na pinanggagalingan. Look at our geography: 7,107 islands so naturally our cultures, values, and belief system are different. So never tayo magiging isa.
