Parang ang hirap talaga magkaroon ng 6 pack abs.
Could anyone give tips? Is this genetic or something?
I think anyone could have them as long as they are determined to drop their fat percentage

isa rin sigurong napulot kong tip mula sa ka-gym ko rin dati. assess mo kung anong type of body meron ka. kung mabilis ba metabolism mo o hindi. kung hindi, mejo mas ingat sa pagkain. kung oo naman, sa exercise ang kailangan dagdagan. parang ganoon. then sa body type din kasi. may iba sa tiyan ang unang lumalaki. ibang tao naman sa may pwet at ang iba legs and arms ang unang nakikitaan ng signs na tumataba. so kung dun ka sa tiyan, eh work harder na lang talaga.. :)

i dont think its genetic. my cousin has 6 pack but his two brothers are overweight.
yep dapat talaga less than 10% body fat kasi you are considered athletic at that stage. well yung iba naman, dahil sa sobrang kapayatan, konting exercise lang lumalabas na talaga so people might think its genetic.
what also helps is that you build your chest so your abdominals look "visually flat" and the tendency is mas mabilis lumabas or maging obvious.
isa pa palang tip, you also have to rest your abs. so it would be best to do sit-ups crunches every other day.

hmm initially hindi naman kita kilala at yung mga kaya mong gawin. pero as a general workout program, pwede na siguro ito.
cardio mga 15 mins.
weight training ka sabay mo back,abs,legs,biceps
yung ibang araw ang combo mo, chest,triceps,shoulders,pwede rin abs. (meaning isang group mwf, isa naman tths rest na yung sunday assuming araw araw ka.)
usual 3 sets - kaw na bahala kung marami reps or pataas na weight.
rest mga 10 mins
tapos cardio ulet panapos mga 10mins. (mag alternate ka na lang ng rowing, treadmill, glider etc para di ka magsawa)
tapos kung familiar ka mas ok mag supersets lalo na kapag para sa core mo (chest and back)
hindi ito super guaranteed pero basic lang na dapat din customize mo lang sa needs mo.

most of these exercise machines may kasamang diet plan pag binili mo.
maybe if you follow the diet plan, the product will work pero i don't think they will
give the exact results gaya ng pinapakita sa tv.
they can. but it means you really have to be faithful to what the product asks you to do. iba iba lang ang time period before you can achieve it kasi iba iba rin naman ng body types.

yun lang talaga diet and exercise.
marami na rin factors - pero isa sa mga primary consideration is yung body type (ata)..dun mag aadjust yung exercise mo at kung ano yung kinakain mo.

its not what you put in but how much you put in. (alam ko hindi naman ito 100% tama pero to lose weight, ito yung unahin mong i-control)
para ka lang isang athlete. training at proper diet.
last time i checked i'm 14.7% BF, ito na pinakamababa ko so far na BF %. galing ako ng 20% BF and took me 5months to the set goal na 15%. ngayon naka-set ako ng 8% para lumitaw ang abs ko. based on my activities and body composition, nasa 1725 cal/day kelangan ko. pero it doesn't stop on counting calories kasi you need to eat the proper nutrients - high protein dahil nag-work-out ako... complex carbs to give me energy... foods rich in fiber and lastly ample amount of good fats. pero my rule of thumb dapat above 100grams of protein makain ko and least amount of complex carbs pero dependent pa kung gaano ka-active that day.
ideally, dapat a gram of protein to a pound of your lean body mass... so kung 150lbs LBM mo dapat nasa 150grams of protein per day ang intake mo. kung di kaya sa pagkain doon ka palang mag-resort sa protein supplements.
work-out - i do 3 day split and HIIT in between work-out days.
imo, pinakamhirap para sa akin ang nutrition factor. madali lang ang buhat. disiplina sa pagkain ang pinakamahirap.

interestingly, i was discussing protein intake with the cardiologist who shares clinic with us and author of 2 books (complete idiot's guide on boosting metabolism and lowering your cholesterol). he's a gymrat too and somewhat cynical on omega 3... kaya i was surprised that he agrees the need for whey protein. like i mentioned on my previous post if you can't reach the required protein intake, your last resort is the protein supplement.
its my first time to hear that protein can be converted as carbohydrates. can you show me literature to read about it. sa pagkakaalam ko kapag iihi mo lang ang excess protein but it would take toll naman on your liver.
i'm not sure if the protein shakes you mentioned and whey protein supplements were the same. most whey protein that you can buy @ GNC averages 120cal / serving, 18-23 grams of protein and 1-2grams of fat.
lastly, the protein RDA that i mentioned is for people who trains in the gym. kasi their body requires more protein than the average. kung magkukulang ka sa protein intake your body may cannibalize the protein from your muscle just to sustain it's daily protein needs.

my basic point regarding protein intake is it's hard to have excess protein basing from our eating behavior as filipinos. i'd bet none of us here can sustain eating more than 100grams of protein/day. worst we don't even realize that we are protein deficient or in non severe case is we're not able to reach the required intake esp kung nagbubuhat ka.... kaya i would safely say that it's least of my worries having excess protein.
as for the second post about the athlete's requirement, yes, i totally agree with it because we're talking about athletes who needs to be light, agile and able to sustain the energy. that's the reason why they require almost 60% of their daily caloric intake from carbs. but it will be different from weight lifters. the carb, protein and fat ratio will be different. protein will take the major share of the caloric intake. also, my amateur bodybuilder friend told me na iba ang strength training ng athletes than muscle development training ng weight lifters. i hope di ako lumalayo my point is iba ang sports athlete to bodybuilders.
i also agree with eating complex carbs is still needed even lifting weights because you need the energy to last in the gym. there are lots of times i'd tell my friends not to scrimp on complex carbs kasi madalas silang mapagod sa gym.
if i'll be going on a trail ride i shift my ratio from protein to carbs as the larger share para ma-sustain ko riding the bike for hours. pero kung mag-work-out you need protein to feed your muscle whose burned from training.
to wrap it up, our discussion started on:
1. protein supplements
- take protein supplements if you know that you can't reach your daily allowance... just like taking multivitamins kung kulang ka naman sa vitamins from the food you eat.
btw can you post what brand ng protein shake that has 400kcal? para maiwasan ng mga kasamahan natin dito coz that's really high cal. i'm interested rin sa nutrition label kung gaano kalaki ang protein content, fats and sodium.
2. formula for the protein intake
it depends on which school of thought you believe in. just like computing your cardio zone which has a couple formulas to get the BPM value. back to required protein intake it can be grams to kg or lbs then the individual's weight might be kg or lbs or instead of the dry weight it can just be the lean body mass which i think is more accurate representation of ones weight discounting BF.
3. excess protein to carbs
like i mentioned earlier i would highly appreciate if you can explain plainly or in lay man's terms without using that much of technical words. pero wag naman na "ang kailangan mo lang malaman ay nakakataba ang excess protein at nagiging carbs ang excess protein. " di naman nasa ganoong kababang kalidad ng pag-iisip ang mga tao dito. pero kulitin ko pa rin si wifey to review her biohem ;D
pahabol na lang, kung anong sinasabi ko dito about protein, supplements, nutrition... halos parehas rin sa sinasabi ni wifey sa mga weight loss patients namin. we never had problems on excess protein kasi mapa-american, mexican or pinoy lamang ang carbs at fats esp sa mga 200 to 300 pounder patients. nung nag-shift sila sa weight loss program and been dedicated to their endeavor nag-loose sila ng weight and most importantly bumababa ang body fat percentage. the best result is we are able to control their diabetes, cholesterol levels...

all you did was converting the serving weight from oz to grams.... what i'm talking about is the protein content for each food. you made the KFC original recipe drumstick as an example and its 2.1 oz = 59 grams.. correct that's the weight of 1 serving but not necessary how much protein you'll get out it... baka information overload ka na sa dami ng nabasa mo for thinking 1 serving = 2.1 oz = 59 grams is the same sa protein content in grams.
based from the label THE PROTEIN CONTENT IS 14 GRAMS PER SERVING check it if you find the time, it would certainly make your while. remember you even quoted yourself about the 1 gram protein ratio to 1 kg of the body weight.... ITS PROTEIN IN GRAMS NOT SERVING SIZE in grams

i still don't see the word excess protein on your statement:
gluconeogenesis and amino acid catabolism. Some amino acids are glucogenic = converts to glucose. Some amino acids are ketogenic = converts to Acetly-CoA which converts to fat products like cholesterol and saturated fatty acids

if you're not sure about the protein supplement since you haven't tried them. its better not to comment about and disseminate false information like 400cal per serving. esp reading the labels since you already confuse yourself with the serving weight and the protein content.

keep drinking a lot of water. medyo taxing sa kidneys ang high protein low carb diet.
at tsaka pacheck ka ng cholesterol and lipid profile every year. medyo nakakapromote ng bad cholesterol ang fat + protein na marami. you don't want to die of heart attacks in the future.

a lot of people in our area don't have any work.. and they just make tambay sa labas. usually wearing only their boxer shorts.. and they have those 6-packs.. some are maugat and some even have 8-packs for those long-torsoed men and teens.
nung school days at active pa ko sa mga dance competitions meron ang abs. ngayon, flat lng ang tiyan ko pero wala na akong abs... ;D
hahaha six pack abs are scary. :P i know a few people who think this way. parang ang trick lang talaga na magka six pack is to decrease your %body fat. kaya nga mga payat na hindi nag gygym, madali nagkaka six-pack.
i'd suggest core exercises more than abs workout.

If it did, then all you needed to do is to stick hormones on someone and they'll automatically be in love. Love goes beyond hormones, it also involves memory, experience, social interaction, bonding.

Kumain ka ng marami kung gusto mo tumaba. At kung 14 years old ka, may effect ang puberty sa yo in being resistant to gaining weight. Usually pag abot mo na ng 20 years old magsisimula magslow yung effect ng testosterone.
Also, as a side comment, I personally think that showing abdominal muscles in a thin guy is just the same as big boobs in fat women.
