With all the mess Joseph Ratzinger aka Benedict XVI brought upon the world last Feb 11, the issue of his successor is now up for debates. Our very own Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, appointed by the Pope to be Cardinal last November 2012, is said to be one of the leading contenders to be Ratzinger's heir.
The argument is: do you think Tagle's young age of 55 and 2-month Church official as Cardinal makes him a wary contender for Vatican's most coveted position? Or does his meek, gentle, and charismatic personality will charm his fellow red-capped elderly from around the world to make him Pope Whatever the Nth?
^no. he lack experience.
Sa ganayng tipo ng larangan ay age does matter. so that's a no....
Nakikita ko kasi, parang hindrance na yung age nila to fulfill their duties and responsibilities. Ibig sabihin, di sila effective(opinion ko lng to). Dapat sa mga bansang may malaking % at lumalaki pa sila pumili kasi they are doing well para e spread ang Christianismo.
bigla kong naisip.. Could it be merong nadiskubre ang Pope na isang malaking kasinungalingan (iniisip ang DaVinci Code) at di nya matanggap na kasabwat na pala siya dito. Dahil di kaya ng concencya, nagresign nalang sya.

Actually mataas ang possibility na Tagle will be the next pope. Madaming cardinals, and even the pope himself like how he "takes care of the Church"... this was one of the arguments of my Priest Uncle... Fr. Dean John Paul (who was ordained during the Opus Dei). I do not know how Tagle really "takes care of the Church" but I think he can be the next pope (I'm not being biased because Tagle is a distant relative... mother side). If his fellow cardinals do like him and even the Pope then there would be a possibility for his name to be written... diba fellow cardinals din naman yung mag vote for the next Pope.
And what I know is that he has a different point of view than those of his fellow cardinals... a point of view where most arguments/questions can be answered...
kasi as far as read about the history of the Holy See, very rare ang mga Asian popes, mostly lahat nanggaling sa Europe (mainly because Christianity is founded in Europe). pero i think aside from Tagle (who, according to some, have very slim chances), the Cardinal of New York is a leading contender.
of course di naman nating puwedeng sabihin na may racism sa loob ng Holy See, pero halos lahat talaga since the beginning of the Catholic Church, Europeans/Caucasians ang madalas nahihirang na Pope.
dahil Philippines is the only christian dominated country in south east asia?
^ i think kuya marv buong asia ata? correct me if i'm wrong OP. btw i love your topics. napaka philosophical. :)
i ship a korean pope! haha yung tipong hunk para di ibabash! :P :P
^speaking of the white which, parang oo nga.. buddist majoris ang karamihan sa asia.
Nandun yung pagiging subjective ko with regard to this because I am Pinoy. We have now our 2nd Saint and sana magkaroon na rin ng Filipino Pope. ;D

but i thought religion is a right, not an obligation? why must you go to shrines if you weren't raised to live in one? *shrugs
it is possible. Who knows? Tagle is very popular. And the Catholic Church needs a very popular Pope right now with the exodus of majority of its followers. Exodus meaning, non practicing Catholics.
nothing is wrong with tagle.... but it will be a big news if ever...
i'm really curious about Tagle's standing in Vatican. can someone compute the probability of him as the next pope? the formula is probability equals the number of favorable outcomes divided by the number of possible outcomes or sample space
lmao
nope..., no one can ever compute one's probability of being a pope...,not even the cardinals, they are not allowed to campaign even the top 10 cardinal "bets" never win..., it is God's mysterious will..., I just hope that the next pope will be a black, or an asian so that equality will be emphasized
i'm kidding, hey :P
europeans are the holy race though, with all the happenings in the Bible that took place mostly in Europe/Middle East/Egypt/Mesopotamia. they won't let unworthy Asians to rule the universal church.
so it actually not hurt being a racist to your own kind lol no offense guys XD
tagle is too young and inexperience to handle that.
the previous pope resigned because his conscience cannot take the 'catholic secret/scandal' anymore or something..
^I just thought of it.. could it be something like that.
i think age has nothing to do with it... its more of the right spirit for the job... God looks at the heart ...and He choose whoever he likes..
Hey sir kilo..., I hate to disagree with you pero I think choosing a pope is something above politics

^facebook bitches be like, "sht we ain't allowed to vote fo awer brah Chito? demn Vatican and their dirty old frustrated daddies! the lord is testing us! edsa ~vatican edition~ brahs!"
^still.. the vatican has a lot of secrets being kept from humanity.
OT: No. Though it's a nice idea for others to ponder on.
Papal coverage: Fangirling media fall flat on their faces (http://spinbusters.wordpress.com/2013/03/14/papal-coverage-fangirling-media-fall-flat-on-their-faces/)
QuoteSo what could have been an opportunity for journalistic redemption turned out to be a tasteless media campaign based on faux nationalism. The local media covered the papal election like it's a Pacquiao event, a Miss Universe tilt, or an American Idol season with a Fil-Am finalist. It's as if media could dictate the result of the secret balloting in the frescoed Sistine Chapel.
