And so I learned not long ago that the Protestants and the Catholics do not have the exact same version of the Ten Commandments.

carpediem

^ Then as a Catholic, enumerate the 10 commandments. As a protestant to enumerate the 10 commandments and compare.

ah you mean, the usage of words may pagkakaiba pero the content or meaning are the same. Marami ng dumadagdag na versions as time goes by. The important thing is you use 3 to 4 versions if your planning to study the Bible para hinde ka mawala sa context kasi ang mga versions may iba ibang words na ginamit na pwede maiba ang interpretation mo, interpretation ko or interpretation ng iba.

^ Oh no. I do not mean the wording.

Why don't you just enumerate them and let's see.

yes, may ibang items ang different sa catholic bible from the other bibles with regards to the 10 commandments...

I'm new here and by chance i was able to see this topic. Even though almost 6 mos nang walang nagpopost, rereply ko lang to.

yep, an observer may see a very BIG difference sa 10 commandments na tinuturo ng RCs from that of the Protestants.

-Protestants and other reformed churches faithfully use a direct quote from Exodus of the 10 commandments. The greatest difference is that most protestants treat "Thou shalt not make graven images" as the 2nd commandment, it is about making and worshipping graven images.

-The Roman Catholics naman use a "shortcut" kasi they say since the point of the "Thou shalt not make graven images" is about idolatry (which is pointed din naman sa 1st commandment), understood na sya na kasama sa 1st commandment which prohibits us to worship other gods other than God. But the remission daw is in no way to support worshipping of graven images. It is only to support na okay lang gumawa ng images (since God also commanded to create images of cherubs in the Ark of the Covenant and the bronze serpent), as long as you DO NOT worship them. And it does not mean daw na binago nila, maybe the numbering is different pero the substance is the same.

kaya magkaiba eh back in the old days, there's no sure way to discern how to break them down. kasi sa Hebrew texts dati, wla namang nakalagay na numbers, written sila per se "daw".

well in my POV as long as you follow the 2 greatest commandments that Jesus handed down, swak na un. Kasi all the 10 commandments are rooted to these 2 which is all about love for God and love for others. In short, if you follow the 2, you will also be following the 10, and also, other 613 Mosaic Law.

I'll post lang siguro yung basic differences. I'll be speaking on behalf of the reformation churches.

1. Salvation is by GRACE alone through FAITH alone. Good works is a by-product of being saved. Note: Salvation is being justified, saved from eternal damnation in hell, and receiving eternal life with God in heaven. I think in Roman Catholic (RC), to receive salvation, one must receive the 5 different sacriments. Am I right?

2. Mary is a Bible character to us. In RC, there is veneration of Mary.

3. Although in different denominations, there are also different church polity and government structure, we do not have a Pope. And we do not believe that the RC pope is the vicar of Christ.

4. We do not have statues/graven images of different Bible characters.

5. When we say "saint", we refer to the Christian. Saints are those who follow Christ with all their heart, soul, mind and strength.

6. We also have a communion. We call it "The Lord's Supper", or some reformation churches call it "Communion". We do not do it every Sunday. Most do it during the 1st Sunday of the month, while others seldom do it. We do not believe trans-substantiation, as RC does. We believe that we partake of the Lord's Supper/Communion in remembrance only of what Jesus and the Disciples did.

7. We do not have novenas.

8. Each member of the reformation church is encouraged to individually read and study the Bible.

9. We do not do the sign of the cross.

10. Our pastors can marry.

I agree in some of the teachings on Protestant..im a Catholic and i believe that not all of the teachings of Roman Catholic are TRUE..i'm just sad that there are Catholics who defend their Catholic faith and insists that they are always true..isn't that it is pride? :( some said that it is the demon's work if a person transfers from one religion...how come that some will said that? knowing that we know that Jesus have plans for us and what if transferring to one religion from another can be God's way in order for us to attain His plans? we don't know...so Catholics don't have the right to judge people...only God could judge us..right?

Actually hindi humiram but more like came from paganism (if ever there's a term). If my memory serves me right Constantine was a pagan before he became a Catholic. Constantine was the person responsible kung bakit Catholic ang parang "dominant" (my opinion) religion all over the world. When Constantine was converted to ROMAN CATHOLIC, he issued the EDICT OF MILAN to proclaim that religious affiliations (Christianity) will not be persecuted anymore just like in the past but proclaimed that ROMAN CATHOLIC be the official religion of the whole roman empire.

FYI, Christmas is not really a Christian celebration but more like a pagan celebration. Jesus Christ was "never" born ON DECEMBER 25. Who knows when but "IT COULD or COULD NOT BE" December 25. Historically December is the month dedicated to their SUN GOD, which is their PRIME God SOL. That's why when Constantine was converted, they used some of the pagan celebrations or symbols to be used in Catholic religion. That's why CHRISTMAS for CHristians=Feast day of the SUN God for pagans.

on topic:

Catholic religion has 7 sacraments:
1. Baptism
2. Eucharist
3. Confirmation
4. Matrimony
5. Reconcillation/Penance
6. Holy Order
7. Anointing of the Sick

as compared to Protestanism which has about 4 or 5 ata.

I know they don't believe in Penance, holy order, and eucharist. (correct me if im wrong)

If i remember it correctly kaya they don't believe in the sacrament of Penance bec the act of reconcillation should not be adminsitered by someone (priests in the case of Catholics). They believe that it should be done personally with GOD.

for instance what?

niceguy1111

Matthew 6:14-16
"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."

Parang sinasabi ng Katoliko na pari lang ang makakapag absolve ng sins? kung sinasabi nila na dahil may authority ang mga pari dahil nga daw kay Peter o sa apostolic tradition...well as far as i can remember sa Pentecost, binigay ang Holy Spirit sa kanila at sinabi ni Christ na "Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them: whose sins you shall retain, they are retained"....samantalang nandun mismo si Mary nung nangyare yun at natanggap din ang Holy Spirit...so how come apostles lang ang makakapag forgive ng sins? samantalang sinabi ni Christ yun sa kanilang lahat na naniniwala sa kanya na may Holy Spirit..gets? If some will say that because Mary is a lady and he doesn't have the authority like men then its fine because a lady as far as i know na hindi nila kailangang magpreach sa church...

"women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says." 1 Corinthians 14:34

but forgiveness of sins is not a form of preaching...because preaching is something that teaches the Word of God...so its different

"By referring to this, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ" Ephesians 3:4
