Unfortunately a lot of people don't like the unknown fact of homosexuality especially if they don't want to be associated with it.
Its an internal conflict for them so they shun out things gay in order to convince themselves they are not gay.
They make it a point to everyone that they're straight...

Life is still a struggle but everything turns out great at the end of the day.
